Funny how time flies

Funny How Time Flies

We often say, “Funny how time flies,” as if time somehow started moving faster. But maybe time hasn’t changed at all. Maybe what has changed is how we spend it, what fills our days, and how much attention we give to the moments while we’re living them.

In this episode of Dr. Davina’s Dots, we reflect on our relationship with time, the things we make time for, the things that consume more of it than they should, and the moments we sometimes don’t appreciate until they’ve passed.

Time keeps moving at the same pace. The question is: What are we doing with the time we have?

Join me for reflection, inspiration nestled between smooth jazz as we slow down long enough to think about where our time is going, and whether we’re spending enough of it on the people, experiences, and things that truly matter.

If today’s reflection resonated with you, you’ll find similar calming thoughts throughout my books, created to offer gentle perspective, emotional clarity, and meaningful encouragement for everyday life and leadership.

My books are designed to help you slow down, reflect deeply, and reconnect with what truly matters, whether you’re navigating personal growth, professional demands, or simply seeking a quieter mind in a busy world.

[00:00:00] Welcome to Dr. Davinas Dots, the show for anyone who loves inspiration. Every episode blends uplifting messages and the soothing sounds of jazz so you can connect the dots in your life. Hello and welcome. I'm so glad you're here. Go ahead and get comfortable. You're right where you need to be.

[00:00:30] Your hour of calm, reflection and relaxation starts right now. Where did it all go? Have you ever had a moment when you looked up and thought, where did the time go? The children were just small. The year was just starting. You were just about to do that thing you kept meaning to begin. And now, somehow, here you are.

[00:00:59] Time moves quickly. And then one day you look up and feel a little bit of sadness, a little ache for all that's gone. If you've ever felt like that, I want you to know, it's not a sign that you've wasted your life. Sometimes time flies when you're having fun. But time also flies when you're living, really living. It's a natural part of being alive. You are listening to Dr. Davina Statz.

[00:15:06] Is time really speeding up? Time hasn't really changed. A minute today is still the same 60 seconds it's always been. A year still has four seasons. Still 12 months. Still 365 mornings when the sun comes up and asks what you'll do with it. What makes time feel like it's slipping away? It's not the clock. It's what we do with our time.

[00:15:33] Think about the moments in your life that felt long, rich, and full. A conversation. A morning with someone you love. A season of your life that was simple and slow. And somehow felt more full than the busy ones ever did. Those moments didn't have more time. But you were fully present in those moments. And presence is what makes time feel like you're truly living. And making the most of every minute.

[00:28:55] This moment is the one that counts. The past is a beautiful place that you can visit but not live in. The future is a room you're preparing but haven't yet entered. This moment. Not the version of your life you're planning. Not the version you were playing. But this one. Right here. Right now is the only place where your life is truly happening. We can spend so much of our life living in the past.

[00:29:25] Or worrying about the future. That we walk straight through the present. Without ever really living it. And then we wonder why time feels like it's passing so quickly. It's passing without us. Because we're not really in it. We're somewhere else. Somewhere that doesn't exist yet. We're somewhere that can't be changed. But this. This moment exists. This is real. And life is happening. Right now.

[00:43:18] You are listening to Dr. Davina's Dots. Whatever you're afraid you've missed. The years that moved too fast. The children who grew while you were still working. The seasons that came and went before you could slow down enough to feel them. I want you to see it from a different perspective. Remember, you were there. Even when you were distracted. You were there. Even when you were tired or worried. Or a hundred miles away in your mind.

[00:43:47] Your life was happening all around you. More than you remember. And more than you give yourself credit for. And the people in your life. The ones you love. And the ones who love you. They remember the moment you showed up. And you showed up more than you know. So here's the most important thing. You're still here. It's not too late. You're listening to Dr. Davina's Dots.
